The History of Chinese Chairs:
Ever since the beginning of the Chinese Culture, resting, socializing and eating were all done while kneeling or sitting on woven floor mats. Even as of today, this traditional mat culture still exists in some parts of China. Gradually, as the Chinese began their exploration around the world, they came about the creation of stools, chairs and benches. The Chinese utilized their vast resources of wood to create and carve out all their furniture pieces.
Traditional handmade wooden Chinese Chairs were all assembled tediously and with precision joinery technique because they had to be sturdy enough to sustain the weight it had to support. Chinese Chairs were first developed with only a backrest and progressively the Chinese incorporated arm rests for the side, cane cushion seats, distinctive décor carvings and a variety of back rest designs. One of the many popular, stylish and complex back rest designs is the Horseshoe-back Armchair.
