The History of Chinese Day-Time Beds:
Chinese Day-Time Beds resembles an oversized rectangular bench that would serve as a platform for resting, socializing, reading and eating. The Chinese Day-Time Beds is an original piece of furniture generally used in China and was not popular in the West. Chinese Day-time beds were typically made knee high and with a large platform top for seating up to 2-4 people. These Beds served as lounging areas or similarly to a wooden sofa that can be used for resting and socializing amongst friends.

A few new additions to the Chinese Day-Time beds were the bamboo/cane top that provided a cool and comfortable cushion, a Kang table that served as a smaller table placed on top of the bed to play chess or drink tea. Many contemporary Asian-style homes have converted the traditional Chinese Day-Time Beds as a coffee table that would function multi-purposely at home.

Similarly to the Chinese Day Beds, the Luo-Han Chuang or the Couch Beds were constructed with panels on three sides of the bed for support. The railings were to support the lower back of the person sitting on the bed to avoid slouching and added as a form of armrest as well. Other Chinese Beds also incorporated wooden canopy frames that had cloth material wrapped around to withstand chilly breezes and provide privacy. A popular use of the Chinese Day Beds nowadays is used as decorative bed frames.
